Endometriosis and Adenomyosis: The Basics

Often referred to as “sister diseases,” endometriosis and adenomyosis share similar origins and symptoms, but are not identical. Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, while adenomyosis is defined by the presence of this same tissue within the uterine muscle (the myometrium).

The Importance of Collective Care

Endometriosis and adenomyosis are complex diseases that affect several areas of a woman’s life. A single approach is rarely sufficient. Collaboration between a gynecologist, radiologist, pain specialist, physiotherapist, and psychologist is the key to making the right diagnosis and developing a care plan that’s unique to you. This is the mission of our network: to ensure that all aspects of your health are taken into account in a coordinated and caring manner.
